Scrivar Office

How can we help?

Answers for the Scrivar Office suite — documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms and PDF. Looking for help with Scrivar PDF instead?

Getting started
What's included in Scrivar Office?
Five editors in one app:
Document Spreadsheet Presentation Form Creator PDF Editor
It opens and saves the formats you already work with — .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, OpenDocument, .pdf, plain text and more. Your licence is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
How do I activate Scrivar Office?
Open Scrivar Office and type the code from your activation card. It looks like SCRO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Activation needs an internet connection once — after that the app works fully offline. You don't need to create an account.
What are the system requirements?
Scrivar Office runs on macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Download the build that matches your Mac — if you're not sure, choose Apple Silicon for any Mac bought from late 2020 onward. Around 3 GB of free disk space is needed for the install.
Licence & installs
How many computers can I use my code on?
Up to 5 computers at the same time. The licence window shows how many installs you've used and how many are left. Re-activating on a computer you've already activated doesn't use another slot.
How do I free up an install slot?
On the computer you want to release:
  1. Leave Scrivar Office running.
  2. Open Scrivar Office a second time (from Applications or the Dock) — the licence window appears instead of a second copy of the app.
  3. Click Deactivate this Mac…, then confirm.
The slot is freed immediately and you can activate elsewhere. Deactivating needs an internet connection, because the slot is released on our side.
My old Mac is gone and I can't deactivate it. What now?
Contact support and we'll release the slot for you. Tell us roughly when you last used that computer — you never need to send us your activation code.
Do I need to be online to use Scrivar Office?
No. After the one-time activation, every editor works fully offline and indefinitely — there's no check-in requirement and no expiry. An internet connection is only needed to activate, to deactivate a computer, to download updates, and for the optional Cloud & AI add-on.
Updates
How do updates work?
Automatically and quietly. Scrivar Office checks for a new version when it starts, downloads it in the background, and installs it after you close the app — so an update never interrupts your work. Updates are free for the life of your licence.
How do I check which version I have?
In Finder, open your Applications folder, select Scrivar Office, and press ⌘I — the version is listed under "Version". If you contact support from inside the app, the version is attached to your message automatically.
Cloud & AI add-on
What is the Cloud & AI add-on?
An optional monthly subscription that adds two things: a Scrivar Cloud folder that syncs your documents across your computers with version history, and an AI assistant inside every editor. It's entirely optional — all five editors work without it.
How do I subscribe or cancel?
Open the licence window (start Scrivar Office while it's already running), then use the Cloud & AI section. Subscribing asks you to sign in to a Scrivar account, since the add-on is tied to an account rather than to your activation code. To cancel, use Manage subscription in the same place — it opens the billing portal, and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
Where do my synced files live?
In a Scrivar Cloud folder in your home folder. Anything you put there syncs; everything else stays local and untouched. If your subscription lapses, syncing stops but your local files stay exactly where they are.
Files & compatibility
Will my Microsoft Office files open correctly?
Yes — Scrivar Office reads and writes .docx, .xlsx and .pptx natively, so files stay in the same format when you send them on. It also handles the older .doc, .xls and .ppt formats, OpenDocument files, .csv, .rtf, .txt and .epub.
Can I make Scrivar Office the default app for my documents?
Yes. In Finder, select a document, press ⌘I, choose Scrivar Office under "Open with", then click Change All…. Repeat once per file type you want to change.
Can I edit PDFs?
Yes — the PDF editor is built in, along with a form creator for fillable PDF forms. If you want a deeper PDF toolkit (OCR, redaction, batch processing, eSignature requests), that's our separate product, Scrivar PDF.
Support
How do I contact support?
The quickest way is from inside the app, because it attaches your version and licence details for you:
  1. With Scrivar Office running, open it a second time to bring up the licence window.
  2. Click Contact support.
  3. Enter your email, pick a topic, describe what's happening, and send.
We reply by email, and replying to that email keeps the conversation going. You can also write to [email protected] directly.
What should I include when reporting a problem?
What you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead — plus the file type involved if it's about a specific document. Never send us your activation code: we never need it, and the in-app form deliberately doesn't send it.
Is Scrivar Office open source?
The editing engine is. Scrivar Office is based on ONLYOFFICE, which is licensed under the AGPLv3, and it has been modified by us. Our modified sources are published at github.com/scrivar-office, and the same link appears in the app under About. ONLYOFFICE is a trademark of Ascensio System SIA; Scrivar Office is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.

Still stuck?

Open Scrivar Office a second time to bring up the licence window, then choose Contact support — or email us and we'll take it from there.
